Autumn is here and while the season brings cosy nights and colourful leaves it also signals the time your garden needs some final TLC before the winter sets in. A little preparation now will ensure your lawn and plants survive the cold months ahead and return healthier in spring.
At World of Power, we’ve rounded up essential autumn garden care tips, plus our top Husqvarna tool recommendations to make the job easier.
Step 1: Clear Fallen Leaves
One of the first jobs on the autumn checklist is tackling fallen leaves. Left alone, they create a soggy blanket that blocks air, water, and sunlight from reaching your lawn which can lead to patchy grass in spring. Regularly clearing leaves allows your lawn to breathe and keeps it looking fresh. Ideally this should be done regularly, as it will prevent the leaves from forming a layer that blocks all the goodness from reaching the roots.
With Husqvarna’s extensive range of cordless and petrol leaf blower / leaf blower vacuum options to choose from you can make light work of fallen leaves and garden debris. Here are our top picks for the 2025 season:
Husqvarna 125B Petrol Leaf Blower
Powered by a 28cc engine and smart start technology for hassle free starting, this handheld blower features a cruise control function to pre-set the blower speed for easier handling. Ideal for domestic homeowner use, with the option to transform the leaf blower to a vacuum quickly and efficiently, with the Vacuum Kit.
Husqvarna 525BX Petrol Blower
Suitable for bigger demanding gardens and semi-professional users, this blower is lightweight with an antivibration system, reducing user fatigue. Also benefitting from a cruise control function, offering a high blowing capacity of up to 86m/s air speed.
Husqvarna 360BT Petrol Backpack Leaf Blower
Designed with the professional user in mind, this heavy-duty backpack blower offers an impressive 30N of blowing force and 104m/s air speed from a 65cc X-Torq engine. Perfect for effortless clearing of large areas of fallen leaves, grass clippings and debris. With comfortable, padded shoulder straps to help reduce load and an off-set handle design to reduce arm strain and improve control. Also benefits from a cruise- control function for easier operation during long jobs.
Step 2: Give Your Lawn Its Final Cut
Once the leaves are gone, it’s time for the final mow of the season. Typically, this falls in late October or early November, but the general rule of thumb is can “Keep mowing if it’s still growing”. The last cut should take place before the first ground frost of the season.
For the last cut of the season you should set the cutting height to a higher setting than you normally cut with over the summer months as the grass will benefit from being kept at a slightly longer height as this will resist frost and disease better.
Once you have completed your final cut, now would be the perfect time to think of booking in your lawnmower for its annual service and blade sharpen so it’s ready for use when Spring time rolls around next year.
Winter Lawnmower Servicing / Storage
· Book in your lawnmower service or blade sharpen with our team now.
· Book in your lawnmower for winter storage in a secure, clean and dry storage facility where we will carry out your annual service and store it until spring.
Clean and store your lawnmower correctly: You should clean off your lawnmower of any grass debris to help keep the machine clean and rust free. You should store your lawnmower in a dry and secure location. All petrol lawnmower should be drained of as much fuel from the fuel tank as possible as petrol does become out of date and can cause starting issues when it comes to the first cut of the season next year. It can also erode fuel pipes and more which will need to unnecessary costly repairs.
For some, that final mow of the season may be your current lawnmowers final Hurrah. At World of Power you will find the full range of Husqvarna lawnmowers available year round, now would be a great opportunity to invest in a replacement and avoid next season’s rush.

Step 3: Scarify the Lawn
Once your grass has been prepared it would be ideal to also scarify your lawn. The soil will still be warm and moist, which will help aid the grass’ recovery after the removal of dead grass and moss (Thatch). Doing this essential job before the first frost sets in prevents weak regrowth and makes the lawn more resistant to the dryer conditions and disease during the winter months. The preferred scarifying conditions are when the weather is mild between 15-20°C and when the lawn is still moderately moist.
Husqvarna currently only has one scarifier within their range and this is part of the 36v Cordless series of battery powered tools. Let’s take a look at what the S138i Lawn Scarifier has to offer. This model can be purchased as BODY ONLY unit for if you are already an owner of other Husqvarna 36v cordless products, or you can purchase the S138i as a KIT, which comes supplied with a battery and charger. Designed with a 38cm composite deck and 2-in-1 metal blades making this model a scarifier and moss rake. Perfect for maintaining the health of any lawn, with a working raking depth from -10mm to +5mm.
Debris will be removed from the ground and collected within the grass bag making short work of weeds and moss removal. This scarifier is lightweight for easy maneuverability and features a dual integrated battery slot, with automatic switch over to provide longer run times for those larger gardens. Let your lawn breathe and become a happier and healthier greener space next spring.
Step 4: Tidy Lawn Edges
Next up is to make sure all your edges are trimmed and tidy and you bet Husqvarna have a tool for the job! The Husqvarna 122c Petrol Grass Trimmer is the ideal domestic trimmer with its lightweight and ergonomic loop handled design, just bump the tap n go trimmer head on the ground to release the correct amount of line to make trimming work easy.
Or if you would prefer a machine with a little less maintenance or have a smaller garden, then the Husqvarna Aspire range may be more beneficial for your requirements. The Aspire 18v T28-P4A Cordless Grass Trimmer comes as BODY ONLY or in TWO kits, with either a 2.5ah or 4.0ah battery and charger. Offering automatic dual trimmer line feed and adjustable shaft for individual height preference.
Keep those lawn edges in perfect condition with this low noise, low maintenance grass trimmer. Also, part of the 18v Power 4 All battery range which can be interchanged with other compatible brands and other machines within the Aspire Range.
Husqvarna have plenty to offer within their Trimmers and Brushcutter range, including more heavy duty petrol models such as Husqvarna 525RX Brushcutter which is ideal for the professional user or larger gardens, the 525RX Mark II Petrol Brushcutter offers increased power and lower vibrations, also includes a 4-tooth grass blade for tougher vegetation and foliage.
From the 36v Cordless range is the Husqvarna 215i L strimmer, ideal for longer grass and for trimming around objects such as trees, benches, and boarder edges thanks to the drop down guard.
Step 5: Last-Minute Hedge Care
Once you’ve taken care of the lawn (she’s very high maintenance we know) it’s time to give your hedge that last once over, it’s important to do this BEFORE the birds start to nest for winter.
My top recommendation here would be the BBC Gardeners World recommended Husqvarna 122HD60 Petrol Hedgetrimmer, rated an impressive 4.8/5.0! The 122HD60 was rated as the best premium petrol trimmer for 2025, thanks to its powerful brushless motor, fast and efficient 60cm double sided cutting blades, the 3-position handle and the lowest noise level of all tested petrol models.
There are also plenty of options with the cordless range, including the Aspire H50-P4A Hedgetrimmer, with 50cm / 20” cutting blades and leaf catcher. The perfect addition to your Aspire collection, or if you are an owner of the 36v cordless system the Husqvarna 215iHD45 Hedgetrimmer could be the one for you! With its brushless motor, 18” double sided blades capable of cutting up to a 25mm branch thickness, this model is ideal for demanding domestic users.
Step 6: Prune Shrubs, Trees & Bushes
Next job to think about is dead heading any plants and flowered bushes for a healthy regrowth in spring, now you can do this with a good pair of manual secateurs and you bet Husqvarna have some impressive hand held pruning saws and secateurs (check out the range here) but we want to work smarter not harder! Luckily as part of the Aspire range, Husqvarna offer great little cordless tools perfect for the job.
The Husqvarna S20-P4A Aspire 18v Shrub Shear comes supplied with a hedgetrimmer blade and a grass shear blade. This multifunctional machine is perfect for trimming grass edges and shaping hedges and bushes, as the blades can be easily switched tool free.
You will also need to tend and tidy those hard-to-reach trees and tall bushes, as giving your trees a good prune in the Autumn will help protect against over wintering bugs and insects whilst relieving stress and allowing them to keep growing healthy during the winter.
The Husqvarna 18v Aspire P5-P4A Cordless Pruner is the perfect handheld companion for effortless cutting through branches and shrubs with the 5” bar and chain. The pruner and shrub shear are also both compatible with the Aspire P4A Extension Pole which offers an impressive 3m reach, ideal for trimming and shearing at height.
Step 7: Final Clean-Up
Don’t forget to clean patios, decking, and outdoor furniture before winter sets in which can create slippery surfaces which can be dangerous when the frost hits. Take a look at the best selling Husqvarna PW125 Pressure Washer designed for effortless cleaning tasks, powered by a 1500w induction motor for high durability, and comes with a rotary nozzle for targeted cleaning, a flat jet nozzle for increased versatility and foam sprayer for detergent cleaning.
